Adélie penguins live in one of the harshest environments on earth were temperatures regularly drop to -40^oc.  The Adelie penguin has been on Earth for around 19 million years after it split from other members of its species.

Threats To Penguins

• Rising temperatures mean melting sea ice, which inhibits access to vital nesting grounds;

• Unsustainable fishing practices are diminishing fish stocks. This forces the penguins to travel further in search of food, which has a negative impact on their health and ability to breed;

• Melting ice removes important habitat for Krill, which is an important food source for the fish which the penguins prey on.

How You Are Helping

When you adopt a penguin, the money from your purchase goes towards helping conservationists carry out their vital work. In particular it helps:

• Create and expand marine protected areas to allow the penguins more room to live and breed;

• Improve the management of Antarctica’s wildlife to preserve the fragile ecosystems;
