Threats to Tigers
- Poaching for skins and body parts used in traditional medicines.
- Habitat loss due to farming and forest clearance for the growing timber trade.
- Decline in natural tiger prey numbers due to the same habitat loss and encroachment by humans.
How Your Money Helps
- Restore areas of habitat to reduce fragmentation and allowing more freedom to roam;
- Train and equipping local people to become part of anti poaching patrols;
- Reduce poaching through the patrols and campaigning for more severe punishment for poachers;
- Work to increase natural prey numbers through research and conservation
There are currently six tiger subspecies left today, but there were once nine subspecies. Despite looking very similar to one another, each subspecies has distinct features which have developed in response to the different habitats in which they live.
