There are less than 40,000 Asian Elephants left in the wild and they desperately need our help to save them from extinction.

  • Poaching and illegal trade in ivory and meat – At the turn of the 20th century there were an estimated 5 million elephants in the wild, but relentless hunting caused their numbers to drop dramatically to around 400,000 at the turn of the 21st century.
  • Habitat destruction – Huge swathes of habitat have been destroyed, forcing the elephants into smaller and smaller areas. Ironically in parts of Asia it is the elephants who are used to clear large trees.
  • Conflict with humans – The expanding human population means more encroachment on the surrounding animals, and this has led to numerous deaths of elephants, killed by people who are afraid of attack.

    How You Are Helping:

    When you adopt an elephant the money from your purchase goes towards:

    • Training and equipping anti-poaching guards who protect the elephants in the bush;
    • Protecting and restoring habitats to allow the animals to roam a wider area as they once did ;
    • Reducing conflict between local people and elephants through education and ecotourism.
    • Improving conservation laws to give habitats better protection.
